Week 13 in 2025

Sometimes, not always, but sometimes, the best experiences and greatest transformations require a little (or a lot of) upheaval and discomfort to set the stage for “absolutely amazing.”

Mike Dooley

The clarity I’ve been receiving has ushered in so much more peace and perspective. My head is clearer and my heart is full. I’m looking ahead and moving forward. I expect good things and good news in the new week. I feel excited about this right now, I’m open to how they’ll unfold, and I’m ready to wowed by how many good things happen in ways beyond my imagination.

The Soundtrack

I listened to a lot of Masego. He’s one of those artists you want to meet just to thank for sharing their art with the world.

Dresses and sneakers

On Saturday I checked out the Japan Festival in the city with one of my friends. It was sunny and almost 80 degrees Fahrenheit during the day with a nice breeze. This was my outfit for the day. It was functional for being out in the sun and a lot of walking, colorful, and fly. I rated this outfit a cool 8 out of 10.

So scandalous

I started a re-watch marathon of the show, Scandal, and I’m enjoying it. I remember when this show first aired back in 2012. It was a big deal and people were hooked on, main character, Olivia Pope’s bad assery, her messy affair with the President of the United States, and fictional US political ratchetry in the White House. Every week millions were tuned in for a new episode.

What an experience it’s been watching it again as a more mature adult who’s experienced more life. I’m picking up on details and themes I didn’t before. I’ve always appreciated Shonda Rhimes’ storytelling. She builds characters and storylines that are nuanced, layered and complex. Her work reminds viewers that human beings and their motives are more blurry and grey than we want to believe. Even the characters you don’t like, she conveys their humanness and complexities to you and it makes you think.

Cheetah girl

Until I learn the art of plating food, my cheat code is creative containers. This mug by Australia based ceramic artisan, Kim Wallace sparks so much joy. I used it as a mini bowl a lot this week for my “artisanal” chia seed puddings for breakfast.

Pride and joy

I used to be unjustly and unfairly critical of myself. I may not do everything right or perfectly, but I do my best. I extract and apply the learnings from my mistakes and failures. I also do a lot of things right and very well. I’m proud of how I move through and learn from challenges and how I stand in my joy and successes too. I wrote this in my journal after reflecting some.

Leftovers remix

I grew up on leftovers and I take no issue with them. When I have to eat them for more than two days though, I make them ingredients for new reimagined dishes. I meal prepped chili for the week. I turned the last of the leftovers into chili cheeze fries. It was so good. Next time I’d put it over a baked potato or roasted sweet potato.

Spice up your life

In my culture, bland food is a cardinal sin. Food is not food without seasoning. I ordered this book, The Science of Spice by Dr. Stuart Farrimond (affiliate link), over a month ago from the Tik Tok shop. I completely forgot about it and it delivered out of the blue this week.

It interested me because I love spices for cooking dishes and want to better understand flavor connections. Armed with knowledge from this book, I’ll have even more fun creating new and different flavor profiles for dishes I make.

This week I’m looking forward to:

What are you looking forward to this week?
