Some songs are soundtracks for seasons, episodes, people, or experiences in my life. They can almost perfectly encapsulate how I was feeling or what I was experiencing.
You’re The One by Kaytranada ft. SYD is one of those songs. The beat is infectious and fun, but the song is about knowing a person is no good for you, but you won’t stay away from them.
It encapsulates a relationship I had with a guy I once dated. After a while, it became apparent that he was no good for me but, in the same vein, I wasn’t ready for the experience to end. Being around him gave me a rush. In the beginning, it felt exciting and his touch sent electricity through me. Overtime though, he began being mean and manipulative and I was chasing the high of the experience before he turned that way.
It was twisted and said a lot about how I felt about myself and what I deserved at the time. Eventually I had to let it go because the heaviness of his energy began overriding the perceivable thrill of it all. I felt myself getting pulled under by the weight of it.
I later learned that he was a karmic relationship meant to teach me lessons about loving and trusting myself. If you know anything about karmic relationships, you know that they are HARD resets! Not for the weak, chile. Maybe this relationship SYD talks about in this song, was a karmic relationship for her too. Haha.
I’m thankful I moved through that space and didn’t just walked away from him, but walked away from being so unkind and unloving to myself too. We give thanks for growth and learning the lesson otherwise it would have repeated in another relationship. One karmic relationship was enough for me. Lmao.
